At the December 18 meeting, the Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 Board recognized two individuals from Jefferson Early Childhood Center as D64 Shining Stars. Francesca Ramirez, a speech and language pathologist, and student Jason (JR) Douglas were honored for their positive contributions to the school community.
Jefferson Principal Michele Barkley commended Ramirez for her dedication to supporting young learners. Barkley said, “Your work with our three, four, and five-year-olds has made a meaningful and lasting impact on their communication skills, their confidence, and overall success in the classroom.” Barkley also noted Ramirez’s innovative methods and collaborative approach that benefit both students and staff. A student added appreciation by saying, “I don’t know, I just love her.”
JR Douglas was recognized for his kindness and leadership among peers. Barkley stated, “You are a star student because you are kind, you’re caring, and you are a wonderful friend.” She described JR as an effective communicator who helps ensure classmates feel included. According to Barkley, “You’re brave, you’re confident, and we’re so proud of the way you learn to lead and the way that you care for others.”
The recognition reflects District 64’s focus on fostering opportunities for discovery, engagement, and growth by nurturing interdependence and appreciation of differences within its schools.
