Chris Krase has been promoted to Deputy Director of Public Works for the Village of Buffalo Grove, effective November 17. His selection follows a nationwide search that drew 36 applicants.

“I was hired in Buffalo Grove thirteen years ago, and I’ve been fortunate to grow alongside an organization that believes in investing in its people and its future. Being promoted to Deputy Director of Public Works is an honor, and I’m proud to continue supporting a team and a community that never stops moving forward,” said Krase.

Krase began working for the Village in 2013, starting his career in the Water Section after earning a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Western Illinois University. He later obtained his IEPA Class C Public Water Supply Operator License and was promoted to Maintenance II in 2015. In this role, he supported water distribution operations, pumping stations, and managed the cross-connection program.

In 2018, Krase became Sewer and Drainage Crew Leader, overseeing field operations for sanitary and storm sewer systems. During this period, he completed an MBA from Western Governors University in 2022. The following year, he was promoted to Utility Superintendent where he managed regulatory compliance across water, sewer, and drainage operations as well as directed annual operating budgets exceeding $15 million. He also contributed to the Capital Improvement Plan valued between $25–$50 million per year and earned his IEPA Collection System Wastewater Treatment License.

Krase has received recognition locally and regionally. He was named Public Works Employee of the Year in 2016 and won the APWA Lake Branch Myron Calkins Young Leader of the Year Award in 2023. Additionally, he is a graduate of both the Illinois Public Service Institute and Midwest Leadership Institute.

In his new position as Deputy Director of Public Works, Krase will oversee all operational sections including Street, Forestry, Water, Sewer and Drainage, Building Maintenance, and Fleet Maintenance.

“Chris Krase has demonstrated a drive to make things better at each leadership level he’s been promoted,” said Deputy Village Manager and Public Works Director Mike Skibbe. “He will find much success as he leverages his experience, skills and education in this new role.”

The appointment supports Buffalo Grove’s focus on developing talent within its ranks while maintaining strong service delivery for residents.
