The Bates Bobcats, with former Loyola Academy standout Abby Walsh on the roster, defeated the Smith Pioneers 74-70 in the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 7.
The teams met for the first time in the tournament at Alumni Gymnasium, where tipoff was held at 7:15 p.m.
The Bobcats are scheduled to face their next opponent at John Long Center on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
