Village of Buffalo Grove Farmer's Market Committee met May 22

Village of Buffalo Grove Farmer's Market Committee met May 22.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

In Attendance: Paulette Greenberg, Larry King, Beth Nudelman, David Bergman, Jackie Beegun, Skylar Beegun, Jane Primack, Steve McClennon, Ramesh Narayanasamy, Greg Sauser, JoAnn Johnson

Call to order 7.05pm. Minutes approved from April 26th. Motion made to approve by Jackie and Jane

Pending applications- We discussed Organic Bread vendor has indicated she wants to come 3 times. Possibly more- this is her first year participating in farmer markets. All approved this vendor

Discussed lemonade vendor application. She has not responded to Greg's inquiry about her booth nor submitted requested paperwork. All voted no to her participation.

Application received from meat vendor. Discussed this vendor was fined by our health dept last year and paid the fine. He did bring one truck back for reinspection. All agreed no to this vendor's involvement with our market.

Greg will send out the 3 vendor rejection letters on behalf of the Health Dept. and our committee decisions.

Dog food vendor has now advised she will not attend this year. Previous application will be re sent.

Resident who wants to do an educational program for the children: She has purchased a 10x10 tent. She will be doing Eating a Rainbow activity and plans to discuss with some vendors having them participate with her (having vendor supply the veggie or fruit of the day) Her first day will be June 18th.

Shirts were passed out to those team members who needed them. We need some different sizes. Last order was 2018? Paulette will send shirt request to Greg, Brett and Tom for approval and ordering. Silk screening will be done locally with a company the Village uses.

Reminder to team members- we will assist vendors with opening/closing their tents. But we are not to help set up their stands unless vendor pays the team person.

Discussed service dogs- if customers have them, the dog should be trained as a service dog. Emotional support dogs and other non-service dogs are not permitted. Current laws do not allow us to ask for proof of the service the dog provides.

Discussion on forming teams for weekly setup/take down of event. No need for all team members to be at the market the entire 6-hour time period. Larry suggested a schedule for AM/PM. AM- 6:30-9:30 and PM 9:30-12:30. All are welcome to be at the market the entire time. If on AM team-then no need to come back to close. And the PM team- no need to wake up early.

AM Team: Ed, Beth, Steve, Paulette, Jackie, Sky

PM team: Mindy, Larry, David, Maanasha, Ramesh, Jane

Market Layout: we will need to put new vendors on the Route 83 side. All agreed Info booth should be more centered on the Rt 83 side.

Non-Profits will be scattered within the 'regular' vendors, as will Business of the Week participants.

Chiro One is the only Business of the Week so far. All agreed Ed should put notice on our Facebook page, encouraging businesses to apply.

Greg is looking into first aid training with AED machines. There is one inside the spray park and one in fitness center. Also, an emergency plan for volunteers and vendors.

Jane and Doug will continue the chalking on Saturday nights of the market layout.

Radio station WBEZ issued a list of area farmer markets- we are listed!

Lake County Farm Bureau and Daily Herald are also listing our weekly market! Next meeting- June 14th 5pm at the trailer in Mike Rylko Park.

Motion to conclude meeting by Jackie & Jane at 8pm.
