State Rep. Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) recently said that President Joe Biden's energy policies led directly to the current level of inflation.

"No more drilling on federal lands," Joe Biden said in 2020, according to a Twitter post and video posted by RNC Research. "No more drilling, including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill. Period."

Morrison spoke on Twitter as well.

"Biden told America what he'd do. Result is $6 gas, worst inflation in 40 years. Production & movement of everyday goods & services depends on energy," Morrison said in a Twitter post that included the same video from RNC Research's post.

The average cost of a gallon of regular gas in Illinois is $5.48 as of Thursday, up from $3.31 one year ago, according to AAA. The average gas price in Cook County is $5.91 per gallon.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) issued its latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on June 10. It said that the inflation rate stands at 8.6% for the last 12-month period  – the largest increase since 1981. Energy costs increased by 3.9% during May and 34.6% over the last year. Food costs rose by 10.1% over the last year.

The highest inflation in 40 years has caused almost two-thirds of Americans to report feeling worried about their financial situation, CNBC reported. Approximately one-fourth of survey respondents said they have already started purchasing different brands of food, drinks, cleaning supplies, and personal care products in an effort to reduce expenses.
