9 percent of applicants to Northwestern University were admitted for fall 2017

At Northwestern University, 95 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 51 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year private not-for-profit institution in Evanston enrolled 22,008 students in fall 2017, including 8,700 in undergraduate and 13,308 in graduate programs, data shows. 1.7 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

30 percent of undergraduates are residents of Illinois, and 60 percent are residents of other states. 10 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (47 percent) and Asian (17 percent).

The school admitted 9 percent of the 37,259 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 55 percent enrolled.
