Winnetka FD responds to 32 fires in 2017

Winnetka Fire Department responded to 517 calls in 2017 - 2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Winnetka included 32 fires - 18 structure fires, six vehicle fires and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,284,095 in fire loss - or about $40,128 per fire.

The department also received 484 false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries.

The Winnetka Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 24 active employees and 32 retired or inactive employees, was $252,617 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $11,483 for every fire in 2016.
