Hanover Park FD responds to 100 fires in 2017

Hanover Park Fire Department responded to 337 calls in 2017 - 1.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hanover Park included 100 fires - 72 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $958,003 in fire loss - or about $9,580 per fire.

The department also received 235 false calls, including four malicious calls and 231 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and four were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Hanover Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 36 active employees and 33 retired or inactive employees, was $244,777 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,205 for every fire in 2016.
