Roskam argues against Casten's white paper on tax policy

U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, who represents Illinois' 6th District, is slamming Democratic candidate Sean Casten's recently published white paper on tax policy, claiming it is nothing more than a plan to hurt the area's families and small businesses.

In a recent statement from Roskam's office, he argues Casten's tax policy plan would be bad for Main Street and the economy.

"Sean Casten’s white paper on tax policy focuses in on two things: raising taxes on the Main Street small businesses that drive our economy and reinstating old tax policies that hurt middle-income families," Roskam's statement reads.

Roskam's statement points to a recent Forbes article that summarizes Casten's plan as a focus on raising taxes, calling it a "stinging analysis." The statement also points out that the Forbes article calls for "fully reinstated the state and local income tax."

“Sean Casten’s obsessive desire to raise taxes on Sixth District families and small businesses has reached new heights,” Veronica Vera, Roskam's campaign spokesperson, said in the statement. “Casten wants to reverse the tax cuts Sixth District residents received through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, while the list of tax hikes Casten intends to impose continues to grow and there’s no end in sight."

"Our district deserves better than Sean Casten's suffocating tax policy," she said.
