Arlington Heights FD responds to 136 fires in 2016

Arlington Heights Fire Department responded to 158 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the North Cook News.

The calls in Arlington Heights included 136 fires - 81 structure fires, 10 vehicle fires and 34 other fires. The fire department also responded to 11 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $696,485 in fire loss - or about $5,121 per fire.

The department also received one false call, including 21 malicious calls and 1 other false calls.

The Arlington Heights Fire, which has 108 active employees and 99 retired or inactive employees, was $6,364,978 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $46,801 for every fire in 2016.
