McAuliffe helps ease the appeals aspect of residents' property tax burdens

Rep. Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) might not be able to lower anyone's property taxes, but he can help homeowners learn how to try to do it themselves.

McAuliffe joined several other state and local lawmakers recently to teach Jefferson Township residents how to appeal their property tax assessments, according to a press release.

The event, which took place at Norwood Park, was presented by Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios. Attendees received help from Berrios' staff members, who showed property owners armed with their tax bills and property index numbers how to fill out their appeal forms and explained the submission process.

The seminar was co-sponsored by Rep. Robert Martwick (D-Chicago) and Sen. John G. Mulroe (D-Chicago), as well as Chicago Ald. Anthony Napolitano (R-41st Ward) and Cook County Commissioner Peter Silvestri (R-9th District).
