Elk Grove High School’s boys and girls soccer teams are getting new coaches this year, with Alex Stavropolulos heading up the boys and Dan Burrier taking over the girls.
Stavropolulos, a science teacher at Elk Grove, replaces Rob Shepard, while Burrier, the school’s Spanish teacher, has been an assistant for the boys team for the last four years and is replacing longtime girls soccer coach Dan Klaus.
Burrier, originally from Stow, Ohio, played soccer for Augustana College in Rock Island. Prior to coming to Elk Grove, he taught at Davenport Community Schools in Iowa and also coached soccer.

Stravropolulos played for Stevenson while in high school, then was a four-year started at Lake Forest College. After graduating he served as an assistant soccer coach at the college. He also spent five years as an assistant at Zion-Benton High School, where he helped the boys varsity team to its best season in school history.
Both teams are recovering after tough seasons and hoping the new coaches will lead them to a run in the upcoming state playoffs.
