Approve building Storage/Maintenance Structure at Hynes Elementary School

Motion: Member Lindsay moved and Member Barhoumeh seconded that the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 approve the building of a Storage/Maintenance Structure at Hynes Elementary School not to exceed $200,000.

Discussion: The District received its final warning from the Regional School District Life Safety Audit about not having a separate storage facility to house chemicals, paint, and combustible materials. All equipment is currently stored in the mechanical rooms at both schools, which is very dangerous. It is in the safety and best interests of our students and staff to move to an off-site facility. Rich Searl proposed two options for the storage facility: 1) a 1,000 sq. ft. facility and 2) a 2,000 sq. ft. Option 1 would have no heating, no cooling, and no room to work. Option 2 would have heating, plumbing and cooling and a functional work space for repair work. Option 2 would house snow removal equipment and landscaping equipment. This would save the District money as this would no longer need to be outsourced (savings of approximately $4,500 per year). The larger facility would house many other items such as cleaning supplies (purchase in bulk), gasoline, floor cleaners, copy paper (purchase in bulk), salt, bags, mulch (purchase in bulk), etc. The facility would also be the District storage facility for school files that need to be kept for 60 years.

The expected life of the facility is 20-40 years.

Member Ardeleanu and Member Kumar are not in favor of the large capital expenditure.

Motion withdrawn by Member Lindsay and seconded by Member Barhoumeh. No objections.

Public Comment None.

Member Hussain moved and Member Barhoumeh seconded that the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 adjourn the meeting at 8:32 p.m.
