The price of local government: Village of Winnetka

The village of Winnetka budget was $59.87 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $13,501.36 per household.

That's an increase of 2.7 percent from 2014 when the village spent $58.29 million, or $13,146.40 per household.

Winnetka has 4,434 households and a population of 12,490.

Since 2001, the village of Winnetka budget has grown by 3.4 percent, from $57.88 million. The village population has grown 0.6 percent over the same period, from 12,419.

Salaries accounted for 25.9 percent of village spending in 2015. Winnetka property taxpayers paid $15.48 million for 149 full-time employees and 12 part-time employees.

In 2001, the village had 162 full-time employees and six part-time employees and spent $12.18 million.
