The price of local government: Village of Northfield

The Village of Northfield budget was $14.87 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $6,095.73 per household.

That's a decrease of 10.6 percent from 2014, when the village spent $16.64 million, or $6,820.04 per household.

Northfield has 2,440 households and a population of 5,483.

Since 2001, the Village of Northfield budget has grown by 13.9 percent, from $13.06 million. The village population has grown 1.7 percent over the same period, from 5,389.

Salaries accounted for 42 percent of village spending in 2015. Northfield property taxpayers paid $6.25 million for 48 full-time employees and 60 part-time employees.

In 2001, the village had 56 full-time employees and 58 part-time employees, and spent $5.56 million.
