The price of local government: Village of Hoffman Estates

The Village of Hoffman Estates' budget was $125.43 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $7,740.24 per household.

That's a decrease of 47.7 percent from 2014, when the village spent $239.93 million, or $14,805.94 per household.

Hoffman Estates has 16,205 households and a population of 51,895.

Since 2001, the Village of Hoffman Estates' budget has fallen by 0.5 percent, from $126.04 million. The village population has grown 4.8 percent over the same period, from 49,495.

Salaries accounted for 25.6 percent of village spending in 2015. Hoffman Estates property taxpayers paid $32.08 million for 346 full-time employees and 117 part-time employees.
