Peter Gialamas recently announced his intention to run for Maine Township's clerk after spending two terms as a board trustee.

A longtime resident and activist, Gialamas was commissioner of the City of Des Plaines' Zoning Board of Appeals from 2003 to 2008 and Maine Township’s collector from 2007 to 2009. He maintains an active role in the community, having sponsored the township’s National Night Out Against Crime for the past three years, and said he takes pride in his role in the jurisdiction’s accomplishments, especially fiscal responsibility and community outreach. As a Realtor and broker-associate for 23 years, Gialamas has earned industry awards recognizing his service quality, according to the township’s website.

Gialamas and his wife, Denise, operate the Free Little Library initiative in Des Plaines and also offer a small outdoor library at their home, where youngsters can borrow and return books at their leisure. He cites education and literacy among his priorities.

The Maine Township website says, “The family is thrilled to see children stopping by on their way home from school,”

Gialamas and his wife are also Girl Scout leaders for their young daughter.

Maine Township comprises portions of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Niles, Glenview, Morton Grove and Rosemont.
