Oakton hoopster named NJCAA Division II, District D, Player of Week

Oakton Community College forward Doris Garcia recently was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II District D Player of the Week, according to oakton.edu.

Garcia, a forward from Wood Dale and a graduate of Fenton High School, had 19 points and 17 rebounds in the Owls' 91-41 loss to Bryant and Stratton College on Nov. 15 at home, according to njcaa.org. She was 8 of 15 on field-goal attempts and had seven offensive rebounds in the contest.

Against Lincoln College on Nov. 19 at Oakton, Garcia had 19 points and eight rebounds in OCC's 83-33 loss. Six of her rebounds were on the offensive end.

As of Nov. 28, Garcia was 41st nationally with 9.5 rebounds per game, 53rd in total rebounds with 57 and 27th in offensive rebounds with 27. Through the first six games, she averaged 12.8 points per game and made 45 percent of her field-goal attempts.
