Oakton Community College (OCC) left-handed pitcher Brandon Nowak recently signed a letter of intent to join the University of Miami, Florida, program, OCC said.

Nowak, a Notre Dame High School graduate and native of Jefferson Park in Chicago, went 8-1 for the Owls last season, was named to the All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) First Team and won the league's Pitcher of the Year Award, according to oakton.edu. In ISCC play last season, Nowak had a 4-0 record, with 33 strikeouts and a 2.16 earned-run average in 25 innings. He also was named to the All-Region First Team.

Nowak will play for OCC this coming season before joining the Hurricanes.

More than 30 OCC players under Head Coach Bill Fratto have moved on to play in NCAA Division I baseball.

According to HurricaneSports.com, the Miami program has made 25 trips to the College World Series, including its second-straight berth earlier this year.
