Editorial: How soon we forget

Vote221

We're just 16 years into the 21st Century and yet so many seem to have forgotten what happened in the one we left behind.

The 20th Century was the bloodiest 100 years in history, and not just because of two world wars. More than 100 million people were killed by their own governments – in the Soviet Union, in China, in Germany, Vietnam, Cambodia, Cuba, etc.

State Rep. Robyn Gabel

What did all those bloodthirsty governments have in common? They were all socialist.

(For those who've forgotten, or never knew, the Nazis were national socialists, as opposed to international socialists like the Communists.)

Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, Castro and other socialist tyrants murdered millions of their countrymen and enslaved the rest. Yet, just a few decades later here in the United States a self-avowed socialist nearly secured the Democratic nomination for president. And the woman who apparently cheated him out of it is herself a covert socialist.

The Democratic Party is dominated by covert socialists at the national level and at the state level as well, as evidenced in our area by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and her protégée, State Representative Robyn Gabel.

“In the 1980s, Robyn Gabel was a regular contributor to Unity, the newspaper of the League of Revolutionary Struggle, a militant, pro-China Maoist organization,” notes Trevor Loudon, author of The Enemies Within: Communists, Socialists and Progressives in the U.S. Congress.

She was also a  supporter of the Unity Organizing Committee, “which was specifically established to infiltrate Maoists into the Democratic Party.”

According to Loudon, Gabel's husband, Ivan Handler, was “one of the leaders of the radical Weathermen, which was a precursor to the terrorist Weather Underground Organization” and was “active in the 1990s in the Committees of Correspondence, an alliance of former Communist Party USA members, Maoists, Trotskyists, and anarchists.”

It truly is astounding that so many Americans vote for candidates who share the same ideology and lust for power as the greatest mass murderers of the 20th Century.
