Electronics recycling program begins on April 6.

Mount Prospect Public Works began accepting electronics for recycling from 10 a.m. to noon today, April 6.

The recycling program will accept electronics on Wednesdays through the last Wednesday in October.

The recyclables can be dropped off at the Public Works facility at 1700 W. Central Road. Among the acceptable items for recycling are computer monitors, computers, printers, scanners, satellite receivers, stereo equipment and televisions. Small home appliances are also acceptable, including blenders, mini refrigerators and vacuum cleaners. Click here for a full list of acceptable items. Items brought to the facility on other days or times will not be accepted.

The village and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) have implemented this recycling program to assist residents in disposing of unwanted, broken and unusable electronics. These items cannot be placed in the trash under the Illinois Product Recycling and Reuse Act of 2012. Mount Prospect Public Works has provided a drop off for electronics since 2012 and has collected more than 250,000 pounds of electronic items for recycling.
