Buffalo Grove raises nearly $80,000 for charity in 2015

In total, the Village of Buffalo Grove raised $79,781 in 2015 for various charitable causes. 

Village officials, departments and employees participated in events ranging from Relay to Life to Hustle Up the Hancock. Family members also participated in fundraising activities.

The village encourages these fundraising activities, which benefit charities and causes. Leading by example, Village Manager Dane Bragg, Police Chief Steven Casstevens and Fire Department Battalion Chief Shawn Collins raised $2,400 for the Rotary Duck Race. The funds raised by the Rotary benefit literacy, youth education and homeless programs. Director of Public Works Mike Reynolds raised $1,745 for the Respiratory Health Association by climbing 52 floors in the Hustle Up the Hancock event.

Board members have focused their fundraising efforts on the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Trustee Jeff Berman and Deputy Village Manager Jenny Maltas each led teams in the event. Maltas' team raised $25,000 in 2015.

In addition, the Special Olympics benefits from the efforts of the Buffalo Grove Police Department, which raised $32,000. Members of the force also raised $1,160 for men's health issues in the "Movember" campaign by wearing goatees in November.

Other beneficiaries of Buffalo Grove's support of local and national charities and causes were Community Health Charities, Autism Speaks, Muscular Dystrophy Association and St. Jude's Research Hospital.
