Grassroots support is needed to stop construction of a sixth runway at O'Hare International Airport, according to OAC.

The O'Hare Airport Commission (OAC) and the Fair Allocation in Runways (FAiR) coalition are urging Park Ridge residents to call and email their congressional representatives to protest the construction of an additional runway.

OAC Chairman Jim Argionis provided a report to the Park Ridge City Council on the outcome of the recent meeting between Mayor Rahm Emanuel and FAiR. FAiR was unsuccessful in convincing Emanuel that the community wanted to stop further expansion at O'Hare International Airport and keep the existing diagonal runways available for off-peak use.

Emanuel made it clear at the meeting that he would not support the concerns of FAiR. Instead, a new deal was inked to build a sixth runway at O'Hare. Residents of Park Ridge -- along with those in the surrounding area who are affected by the noise and pollution already generated by O'Hare -- will be further affected by a sixth runway.

Constituents can facilitate changes to the airport plan with a grassroots effort to block funding of the new runway. Those who wish to share their stories and express concerns about the O'Hare Modernization Plan and the building of a new runway can contact their congressional representatives via post, email and phone call.
