Streamwood held public hearing on 2015 tax levy

Takenotes

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Streamwood, Illinois recently held a public hearing on the 2015 tax levy.

The proposed 2015 tax levy was presented for public comment at a public hearing on Nov. 19. The Village of Streamwood President and Board of Trustees were present to hear public testimony. Notice of the public hearing was published in the Streamwood Examiner on Nov. 11.

After Village Clerk Kittie Kopitke reported that no one had written to the board regarding the tax levy or signed in to speak at the public hearing, Finance Director Mary Johnson reported on the proposed tax levy. The 2015 levy will be the same as the previous year's levy. While the pension levy increased, the general tax levy was adjusted and decreased to prevent an increase in the tax levy. During Johnson's report, she also noted that the Equalized Assessed Valuation (EAV) for real property rose during the last year. This is a good sign for an improving economy, she noted.

After reviewing the 2015 tax levy and receiving no public comment, the Village board adjourned the public hearing. Interested residents can view the proposed tax levy at the Village Clerk's office.
