First readings of 2015 property tax levies presented to Streamwood Board of Trustees

The Streamwood, Illinois Board of Trustees heard first readings of 2015 property tax levies and approved the second reading of utility rate increases.

The first readings and postings of the 2015 property tax levies were presented to the board on Nov. 19. The 2015 property tax levy will be $11 million, which is the same as the 2014 levy. The board also heard the 2015 special service area tax levy, which totaled $133,029 for 28 of the 29 special service areas. The taxes collected in the special service areas are used for wetland and wooded area maintenance. They are specific to the properties.

The board also heard the first reading of the 2016 operating and capital improvements budget. Public workshop sessions were held previously to review the spending plan. A public hearing was held on Nov. 19 before the regular board meeting.

The board approved several other items during the meeting, including semi-monthly expenditures of $572,640.66, the second reading of the increase in water and sewer rates, the second reading of the special use permit for Supermercado Fiesta Mexicana Inc., purchasing three computer servers from Dell Inc. and adjusting the number of "F" and "O" liquor licenses.
