Elgin Heritage Commission to meet and review historic plaque application, alternative tour methods

City of Elgin, Illinois Heritage Commission to meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

The commission's first order of business will review and approve the Nov. 3 meeting minutes.

The commission will then review the Heritage Building Plaque application for 1262 W. Highland Ave. After discussion and possible action on the application, the commission will move on to Old Business.

Under Old Business, the commission will hear reports from neighborhood groups regarding heritage-related activities. The Mayor's Initiative will include the directional signage update. The commission will also discuss alternatives to the "Guide by Cell" tour. Discussion will include a web-based app and the effects of cancelling Guide by Cell. The commission must determine the next steps regarding the current signage and discuss the lowered costs of using an app. The commission will also brainstorm to produce ideas for advertising the Historic Rehabilitation Grant Program.

The 2014 budget wrap-up report and 2015 budget projections will be discussed under New Business. Following the discussion of New and Other Business, the meeting will be adjourned.
