The Des Plaines, Illinois City Council holds first meeting in 2016 on Monday, Jan. 4.

A closed session begins at 6 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. The agenda for the closed session includes discussions on setting a price for the sale or lease of property, purchase of property, collective bargaining and the review of closed session minutes.

During the regular meeting, State Sentator John Mulroe (10th Dist.) will give the council a presentation.

After citizens have an opportunity to speak on matters not on the agenda, and the City Clerk and Aldermen make their announcements, the council will move on to the Consent Agenda. All items on the Consent Agenda will be approved with one vote. The items include the regular meeting minutes for Dec. 7 and 21; the minutes of the closed meeting on Dec. 21; a bid to Precision Control Systems of Chicago Inc.; a contract with Municipal GIS Partners Inc.; contract expenditures with ABC Commercial Maintenance Services Inc. and Trees "R" Us Inc. and a purchase from On Time Embroidery Inc. The promotional testing expenditures for the Fire Lieutenant list with Industrial Organizational Solutions Inc. and the agreements for Federal participation with IDOT on the Rand Road Sidepath project and with the engineering consultant Civiltech Engineering Inc. are also on the Consent Agenda. The last three items authorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the Nimble storage drive, a Barracuda backup appliance and the O'Hare Lake Pumping Station improvement project.

The Committee of the Whole will update the council on the warrant register for $4.86 million, while under Public Safety, the automatic mutual aid agreements, application for a grant that will pay for replacing the Fire Department's self-contained breathing apparatus, buying uniforms for the Fire Department, "hold harmless" agreements with Arlington Heights and Niles Fire Departments, and the ads announcing the bidding process for a fire engine/triple-combination pumper will be reviewed.

Following the Manager's Report, Aldermen's Comments and Mayoral Comments, the meeting will be adjourned.
