Prospect Heights announces Christmas tree composting program

Christmastreeornaments

Residents of Prospect Heights, Illinois can put out their clean Christmas trees on their regular collection day for pick up from Jan. 4 to Jan. 15.

No stickers are required. The service is free.

To participate in the Village's Christmas tree composting program, all garlands, lights, ornaments, strings, tinsel and wires must be removed from the tree. It must be completely bare. Do not cut up or trim the tree. The refuse collector will pick up the entire, uncut tree.

Trees put out for pick up before Jan. 4 or after Jan. 15 will be treated as regular refuse and not composted. In addition, natural and artificial wreaths must be placed in the green refuse cart. The wreath's metal frame is considered refuse. Do not place natural or artificial wreaths in the blue recycling cart.
