Temporary closure of Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling announced

The Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling, Illinois is scheduled to close on March 21 and reopen in a temporary location on April 4 due to planned renovations.

The temporary closure begins the renovation of the Indian Trails Public Library at 355 Schoenbeck Rd. During the two-week closure, library users will have access to the online resources. Hours will be extended at the 99 E. Palantine Rd. branch in Prospect Heights. Approximately 40 percent of the library's collection will be moved to the temporary location at 70 W. Dundee Rd., Buffalo Grove. The temporary location will be open during the same hours as the main library. It will be fully staffed and all services will be available.

“The board of trustees weighed all options for moving to a temporary location or staying in the building during construction,” Library Director Brian Shepard said. “They considered a phased construction, where sections of the building would be closed and then re-opened, but determined that moving was the best option to our members, since moving reduced the overall time of the renovation.”

The expansion and renovation of the library building will last eight to 12 months. When the remodeling is complete, the library will be 14,000 square feet larger, with room for private study rooms, digital media studios and a training lab.
