Northbrook announces snow plowing services

Snowcoveredcar

The Village of Northbrook, Illinois recently detailed the Public Works Department's snow and ice removal services.

The Public Works Department prioritizes salting and snow and ice removal from streets, parking lots and public sidewalks, in that order. Public Works will plow the main sidewalks used for children on their way to school, sidewalks used by commuters to get to the train station and sidewalks used for shopping and recreation by Village residents and visitors.

The Village owns approximately 125 center lane miles of roadway, which is approximately 537 plow lane miles. Plow lane miles include the multiple passes over streets to clear the entire width, from curb to curb. Wider streets require numerous passes to clear the snow completely from the roadway. The goal is to have all streets cleared and salted within four to six hours after the end of snowfall, followed by parking lots, municipal facilities, and sidewalks.

Residents should call Northbrook Public Works at 847-272-4711 if the street has not been plowed within four to six hours, it is still icy and needs additional salt, or snow accumulations or piles are causing problems with line of sight or impeding vehicles or pedestrians. Residents can also call Public Works regarding parking restrictions when snow plowing is required due to a snow event.
